American Servicemen Continue Their Education at Drexel Online
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) January 9, 2008 -- Two members of the U.S. Armed Forces are pursuing degrees from Drexel University Online, a leader in Distance Learning. Gary Parker of Manahawin, N.J., and Robert Smith of Miami Beach, F.L., chose Drexel in order to further their education and advance their careers through the convenience of online learning.
Gary Parker, a Master's in Software Engineering student, was recently offered full-time employment with a global defense and information technologies firm and needs a master's degree to stay competitive in the job market. Parker has noticed a change in himself and the way he views success. "I surprise myself every day. I thought after so many years out of school, my abilities might have atrophied, but I currently have all A's!" he said.
Similarly, Robert Smith, a Master's in Higher Education student, noted that he was searching for a reputable university and degree. "Drexel had the program I wanted, was ranked in the top 50, and gave a special tuition discount to the military, which made it affordable for me," he said. He is hoping to use his degree to not only further his career, but also to give back to the community. Smith is obtaining a degree in Higher Education, and plans to work with special needs children. His goal is to work in a treatment center for autistic children and establish an early education program at the center.
Both men say their families are proud of their accomplishments and offer advice for prospective online students. "If you can be disciplined, then this is an excellent way to get a good degree from a reputable university," said Smith. Parker said, "The tech department at Drexel is better than some folks at IBM!
